Most charities will mention if they have special requirements. In general, projects that are machine washable and dryable are particularly welcome. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to email the contact for your charity to get clarification.
Some charities do require you use a specific pattern to meet their needs. Most charities are very flexible and will let you craft using a pattern of your choosing. For free pattern downloads, visit our BernatCares Free Pattern Library. If your charity requests items of a specific size (for example, squares for an afghan), but doesn’t specify a stitch pattern, you can use the Bernat Stitch Glossary for inspiration.
The Free Pattern Library is currently limited to patterns that have been tested at the Bernat Design Studio. We are not accepting pattern submissions at this time. If you are looking for a type of pattern that is not currently available, let us know at inquire@bernatcares.com.
If there is a specific size requirement, your charity will clarify that in their details or on their website. If you have completed projects of various sizes, you should be able to find groups looking for items without size restrictions.
You cannot donate money through www.bernatcares.com. If you would like to make a monetary or item donation to a charity, please contact that charity directly.

If you can’t find a charity in your area, take a look at some of the larger national charities. They often are looking to create new chapters. If there’s a cause you’re passionate about, get in contact with the local hospital or shelter and start your own organization!
There are so many charities out there, large and small, helping those in need. If you know of a charity accepting handmade items, send them an invitation to join.
